If tracking your food feels hard, you’re not broken — you’re building a skill.
In Episode 009 of Strength for the Journey, I share a real-life story (yes, involving an unexpected tax bill) that reminded me of something I see in fitness all the time: what feels complicated at the “beginner level” often becomes simple once you’ve gotten a few reps in.
If you’ve ever thought, “I can’t do this because it’s too much work,” this episode is your reminder that hard doesn’t always mean wrong. It often just means “new.”
In this episode, we talk about
- Why consistency in a busy season has to look different (and that’s okay)
- The mindset shift that makes calorie tracking feel less overwhelming
- What to remember when the scale isn’t moving the way you want
The big takeaway
The goal is not to be perfect. The goal is to stay in the game long enough for the skill to get easier.
That is true for tracking, lifting, and building any habit that has to survive real life.
If you’re in a busy season right now, try this
- Shrink the workouts, keep the intensity. If you only have 20 minutes, use them.
- Pick one “skill” to practice for the next 2–4 weeks. Tracking, protein, steps, or lifting. Just one.
- Stop reading the scale like a report card. Fluctuations are normal. Trends take time.
If you’re in the messy middle right now, this episode will help you stay in it long enough to “level up.”
